I got in to the Apicta and i was one of the finalist.

Presented the idea last week, on my birthday. I hope everything goes well!

Can't wait for the result on August. :)

Update! :

Did not win the award but it was a good experience!

Hope to learn more and feel more!

Showcase!

The showcase of my degree show had just ended last week, which explained why lack of updates here. Been busy with my work and i should have just document and update the progress here and about the showcase!

images & videos will be update soon.

I had a very fun and interesting experience thus far and the exhibition was a success. We all did a very great job on our fyp and i am so proud of all of us. As for my work, eventhough there are some flaws ( about the connecting part), i think it did well in conveying the concept i wanted to show. People finds Bit to Heartbeats interesting.

Got to go for a one day trip with my coursemates. Will update later!

Physical Representation.

After looking back at my old sketch, i found out that what i really wanted to show. Instead of just flow of data but a physical representation of the person's presence.

The plan is like this, when you do something in the virtual world, it will affect the physical world's object. Wanted to make a bigger scale led table but lecturer said stick to a smaller scale sculpture or something (not enough time).

So i've been thinking what material should i use for the LED sculpture...i got the overall design (heart shape) but i need to think about the measurements and pay a visit to wood shop.

Hope it works!

Hello IR Sensor.

Finally here. And the Google Project is officially over too. Got the drive back to build up my prototype. Yees time is running out. Ouch.

Literally jumped when the FedEx called me about the parcel (was not at home).

Check 1

As consulted earlier, lect said that i have to focus back on my concept and the execution because i was stranded away from the main idea.

After meeting and discussing with my cousin,HY, an IT dude, now i got a better idea of my limitations and abilities. But I do not want to restrict myself with the limitations, i want to think of the possibilities because i really wanted a physical representation of the data.

First step is to get the components (still awaiting confirmation from Sgbotic) i wanted and trial & error with the input and output before i can implement the physical part. So for now i will focus on getting the main input, output data to work before thinking about implementing the physical representation (optional).

Presence of the person (heartbeat) > input data > visualize data > output(?)

After much evaluating my capability, for now i shall try to make this works.

Reminder:
Diagram, flowchart, space planning, digital content, storyboard, technical details.

Go go go.

The IR transmitter and detector that i wanted are not available around Msia, even in sgbotic site. Might need to order it from US but the shipping cost a bomb.

For now, i bought another similar IR transmitter and receiver, hopefully it works. As for the installation, i have to really re-think and redesign it. Do not want to stranded away from my initial concept.

Will upload the progress asap.

Digital content; i need to get the value of the heartbeats only can able to visualize it. So for me i shall focus on the technical (scripting) part first. Space planning have to redesign too.

Need to speed up.

UPDATE(Feb 10th 2010):
Finally I got the reply mail from Sgbotic.com. I asked them whether they can ship in the IR transmitter and detector. They said okay but will re-confirm (next shipment from Sparkfun in 2 weeks time) again with me later. S$3.00 each and S$15 for parcel service (FedEx).

I love this.

An awesome song by Passion Pit. Something to lighten up the blog:

Makes you wanna have a stroll with the music. Can i be in this video? I like the style and the song. Care-free. Good Time. Another video, Zero by Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Yes, walking on the street is my forte! ( but if the weather not too hot)

Content Development #2 [I am in!]

Wootz! I am so excited! I just got the Pachube invitation code, my API key and full access to the site. I checked out the tutorial and I saw lots of coding going on in it..Apparently, i still need to study on Processing and PHP....

Currently i am downloading Processing, because Processing is needed to control my Arduino to process all the data formatting and serving to Pachube. Well if i have Arduino with Ethernet shield then my Arduino will be able to connect to the internet. So for now, Processing will do the trick.

Here is the sketch of how the flow of the installation:

My installation.
If this is possible.

I think i got the overall idea now, just need some eq and stuff to explore more.

&

62.9mb file(Processing) need around 2 hours to complete, but is almost 4am now. So I will continue on tomorrow (at least one of the tutorial) after the class and my google thingy.

Oh and sri report. :) Writing is entertaining...for now.

Stucked.

After Tuesday consultation and Thursday (overslept-no-go-class) session this week, something smack hard on my face:

Sometimes less is more. Trying too hard might not work things out.

Re-think, Re-evaluate, Re-inspire.

Coming soon. Not much time left.

It can be as simple as black and white. Simple but stunning.

Abstract for Idea 3.

Technology metaphoric as a wormhole, hypothetical tunnel (Maccone, 1995) connecting two different paradigm of time, like a time machine intertwine the past, the present and the future in a linear experience of time.

With the invention of mechanical clock in the thirteenth century inaugurated a new representation of time which embodies a homogenizing representation of time and place. (Lorenzo, 1995) Technology giving us more time, rendering us closer to being perpetual, by minimizing the time needed to achieve a goal which allows us to take time for granted and “rendering us less vulnerable to what occurs in time, to the vicissitudes of time” (Lorenzo, 1995).

At the current state, new media art are mostly embodied with digital technology. There are ways of managing knowledge and visualization in image culture, and in cultures deeply affected by the use of digital technology (Chiu,Chih-Yung,2006). Art in the age of digital in “new technological form such as photography and cinema, have already raised questions about art”(Stephen, 2002). Art has reproduced; reinvent to create new contexts and purposes. Meaning and technology are forced to interact with each other.

Have a seat!

Yo. Here gonna be the journal of my research, findings, sketches of my final year project. I will share my hunt of interesting articles, videos or websites(relate to digital media) here too.

First week of my 2nd sem, final year:
I have to come out with around 3 ideas for my FYP. Hang around for more updates in the future. THX YOU :)
